What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy that helps people process PTSD symptoms and negative beliefs about themselves as a result of past trauma. It has also been found helpful for anxiety. phobias and grief.

What does it involve?

The process involves a brief focus on the disturbing memory while engaging in in bilateral stimulation (eye movements or tapping on palms or knees or alternate auditory tones on each ear with a headphone). This process helps reduce the intensity and emotional impact of the memories, making them feel less distressing.
